Kasarani is a middle income neighborhood situated 12 kilometers from Nairobi CBD. It is a mixed-use area with many residential, commercial and retail developments. What makes Kasarani attractive to most investors is the fact that it is the second most populated sub-county in Nairobi. The middle income residents plus the population makes it good for any investor.
Political Representation
Kasarani is the best definition of a metropolis. The area’s diverse tribal makeup presents a strong opportunity for anyone seeking a political seat. Captain Ronald Karauri, the CEO of SportPesa, is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kasarani.
History of Kasarani
The name Kasarani emanates from the Kikuyu name “Gathara-ini,” which refers to a river that flows through the area. Its broader history ties it to being a hunting ground within the “Roysambu Estate.” After independence, the area was subdivided and developed into a mixed-use area.
House Prices in Kasarani
Being a mixed-use area, Kasarani boasts of diverse developments. The area has a large residential market focused on rental property. Retail developments are also pronounced, with giants like Naivas, Magunas, Powerstar, and Jaza present in the area. Commercial properties, especially offices, are also present majorly along the Kasarani-Mwiki road.
The area has over the years attracted lots of investors. Especially those putting up residential apartment blocks. As mentioned before, Kasarani has a giant population, and the demand for housing is ever present. Regardless of your budget, there is always something here for you.

Community Profile
Kasarani is a very unique place, as it hosts diverse groups of people. Whether it’s in terms of tribe or nationality, the neighborhood is a melting pot. And as earlier stated, this makes it very easy for anyone seeking a political seat to win, as tribal roots are almost non-existent. The strong international composition in Kasarani is from the many refugees from Congo, Rwanda, and Sudan who reside there.
In terms of security, the area is moderately placed. It borders several low-income settlements, including Githurai and Dandora, on both sides. This has led to a series of criminal activities over the years. Accessibility is quite good, with major roads and feeders connecting Kasarani to Nairobi. Furthermore, seeing that a huge part of the population works in town, transport to CBD and areas like Westlands is very easy.
If you are just starting out in your profession and need a chill, somewhat classy, and affordable place to stay, Kasarani should be on your list. I have personally lived there, and I can’t complain.
